Car bomb warning for southern border provinces

A warning has been issued to all security units in southern border provinces to be on high alert for bombs concealed in four stolen pickup trucks and five motorcycles.

The warning said there had been reports insurgents were preparing to make attacks in Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat provinces and Hat Yai and Sadao districts of Songkhla, particularly against urban economic zones and Buddhist targets, during the final 10 days of Ramadan - from June 27 to July 6.

They were warned to watch out in particular for four stolen pickup trucks and five Honda Wave motorcycles.

The pickups are - a Songkhla-registered Isuzu, licence plate 7934, stolen from Narathiwat's Rueso district following the fatal shooting of Surachai Narumalinee on June 12, 2013; a Pattani-registered Mitsubushi, licence plate 1306, stolen from Narathiwat's Muang district on Jan 25, 2010; a Bangkok-registered Toyota Vigo, licence plate1093, stolen from Pattani's Saiburi district on April 22, 2012; and, a Bangkok-registered Toyota Vigo, licence plate 6602, stolen from Yala's Muang district on June 12, 2012.

All units were instructed to step up vigilance.
