Local leader wounded in Yala gun attack

YALA -- A village chief was shot and wounded in a gun attack in Raman district on Sunday morning, police said.

Pol Capt Siripong Thongyang, deputy chief investigator of Raman police, said Sulgifli Molo, 46, chief of Moo 4 village in tamboon Koto Buera, his assistants and some villagers were sitting in a tea shop near Khuwo School when two men arrived on a motorcycle.

The pillion rider fired several shots at Mr Sulgifli with a pistol, hitting him once in the right leg, before the motorcycle sped away.

He was admitted to Raman Hospital and later transferred to Yala Hospital.

Police were investigating the motive of the attack.
