YALA -- A defence vounteer was killed and a village chief seriously wounded when they were ambushed by gunmen in Bannang Sata district on Monday, police said.
Asae Nikong, 42, chief of Moo 4 village in tambon Bannang Kuwae, and Saman Sophap, 45, a member of the village defence team, were travelling on a motorcycle when attacked by men hiding on both sides of the road, who opened fire with assault rifles.
Saman was killed and Mr Asae severely wounded.
Police were investigating.
