Cyber security master plan approved

The Defence Council has approved a draft masterplan to ward off cybersecurity threats to the country, Defence Ministry spokesman Kongcheep Tantrawanich said.

He said the draft master plan for national defence against cyber threats for 2017-21 was approved by the Defence Council at a meeting chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Prawit Wongsuwon on Monday.

The draft master plan is in line with the ministry's cyber strategy for national defence, approved by the Defence Council on Feb 29, said Maj Gen Kongcheep.

The draft covers six key work plans involving setting up cyber organisations, protecting infrastructure, getting prepared for cyber operations, developing cyber potential, supporting national cyber potential and planning cyber cooperation and strengths.

Under the draft master plan, the Office of the Defence Permanent Secretary, with the help of the Defence Information and Space Technology Department, is to set up a ministry-level cyber centre in fiscal 2017.

The ministry-level cyber centre will be connected to cyber centres of the Royal Thai Armed Forces Command and the three armed forces.

The Defence Ministry's cyber centre will lay down a national cyber policy. It will also be responsible for drawing up cyber strategies and operational plans.
