Ex-border policeman slain in Narathiwat

NARATHIWAT - A former border patrol police officer was killed in a gun attack in Chanae district on Monday morning, police said.

Pol Lt Col Sithichok Piboonsaksophon, an investigation at Chanae police station, said that the incident occurred at about 9.30am at a shed by a canal in Ai Buetae village of tambon Chang Phuak.

While Pol Sr Sgt Maj Jirasak Wadeng, 53, a former police officer who formerly taught at the border patrol police-run Ai Buetae School, was sitting under the shed, an assailant approached him and shot him twice with a handgun, killing him instantly. The killer then fled.

Police were investigating.
