PATTANI - A villager was shot dead and his six-year-old son wounded in Yarang district on Saturday morning.

The shooting occurred at Kubae Badoh village in tambon Sadawa, said Pol Lt Col Wichian Khamsao, deputy investigation chief, who was reported at around 9am on Saturday.

San Thanya, 52 and his son, Natthawat, 6, were attacked while they were hunting squirrels at a rubber plantation. An unknown number of men fired at them, killing Mr San on the spot. His son suffered gunshot wounds and was rushed to a hospital by local residents.

Police believed the attack was related to southern unrest.
