Pattani bomb kills one, injures 16

PATTANI - A woman was killed and 16 people, including five children, were injured when a bomb exploded at a downtown night market Monday night.

The blast happened in front of a Berm noodle shop at an all-night market on Phiphit Road in Muang Pattani municipality at about 7pm.

The dead was Mrs Somporn Khunthakaphan.

The injured were identified as Private Watthanachai Phromnukul, Miss Walaya Phromnukul, Miss Amorn Makchuchit, Mrs Techinee Niraphai, Miss Philai Nat-apinant, Mrs Anchalee (surname unknown), Mrs Anchalee Tangbenjakul, Mrs Sataphorn, Miss Suwannee Sukklaithai, Mrs Uraiwan Phoomcharoen and Mr Phichai Jankaeo.

Two boys -- Jitthep Phromnukul and Phromphiriya Phromnukul -- and three girls -- Narisara Makchuchit, Natharika Khanthawat and Juthamas Thimthong -- were also wounded.
