Up to 29 participating and observing nations will take part in this year's 36th annual Cobra Gold exercise co-hosted by Thailand and the United States from Feb 14-24.

Cobra Gold is the largest multilateral military exercise in Asia.

The exercise will bring together more than two dozen nations to address regional and global security challenges and to promote international cooperation and stability within the region, according to a statement released by the US embassy in Bangkok.

This year’s Cobra Gold will consist of three primary events: a staff exercise which includes a senior leader seminar, humanitarian civic assistance projects in Thai communities, and a field training exercise that includes a variety of training events to strengthen regional relationships and enhance interoperability.

There will be up to 29 nations either directly participating in or observing Cobra Gold 2017, with approximately 3,600 US personnel directly participating in the various events, both ashore and afloat.

The opening ceremony will be on Feb 14 at Sattahip Royal Thai Marine Corps Base in Chon Buri and the closing ceremony on Feb 24 at Phu Lamyai Training Area in Nakhon Ratchasima.
