YALA - A local leader was killed in a gun attack in front of his house in Muang district on Saturday morning.

Madolor Salae, 56, chairman of Porseng tambon administration organisation in Muang district, was getting out of his white Toyota Fortuner to close the gate of his house in tambon Sateng when two men on a motorcycle arrived and the pillion gunman allegedly fired multiple shots him with a pistol before fleeing. The TAO leader was hit five times in the right rib.

Pol Col Chamlong Suwalak, chief of Muang police station, led a team of officers to the scene after being reported at around 7.30am.  Bloodstains were found near the Fortuner. Mr Madolor was earlier sent to Yala Hospital, but he was later pronounced dead.

Police were looking whether the attack involved a political conflict or the on-going southern unrest.
