Shaky truce after fresh fighting

THAI SOLDIER KILLED, GOVT THREATENS UNESCO REPRISAL, CAMBODIA GOES TO UN

Thailand is cranking up pressure on Cambodia over the disputed Preah Vihear temple, even as a shaky ceasefire holds after the worst border fighting in two years claimed at least five lives.

SOLDIER FALLS: The flag-draped body of Sgt Wutcharin Chartkhamdee, who was killed in the border clashes, arrives at Wat Siriwarawat in Si Sa Ket’s Kantharalak district.

The government reached a ceasefire with Cambodia yesterday after a resumption of border clashes in the morning killed one Thai soldier, taking the Thai toll to two.

Khun mastervix #39, would you mind telling us how the US solved a similar situation regarding another old temple in the middle of Texas, named "The Alamo?"

The shaky ceasefire isn't holding according to the ABC Australia network; more fighting began at 6pm.It's strange that a foreign service can beat the local news to the punch. Does that mean out Thai newspapers aren't up to scratch?

    How typical of Thailand,
we say everything is fine and our government keeps saying
"do not worry we have it all under control"
Still new clashes erupt Domestically and Internationally.
It's a pity we cannot trust anyone in this country anymore.

As a neutral, let me offer this advice and view. Proble; Cambodia & Thailand "claim" this Temple and the surrounding area, both countries consider the Temple to be a Holy site, this the world understands.
Solution; Both countries should agree to make the entire area an "International Zone". let the U.N. setup a working solution that allows both countries to profit from the tourist industry and dual religious ceremonies.
Closing; Fighting over a religious site defiles what it stands for and 2 wrongs do not make 1 right.
Final Thought; Finish building the connecting railroad between your 2 countries, increase your trade amongst each other & profit from better relations & tourism. I had planned on visiting Thailand,Cambodia & Laos this summer, but now that is all in question due to this unrest.

PM.Abhisit's statement "I'm asking Thais to support the armed forces in protecting the country's sovereignty," he's adding, that the army would never invade its neighbour. So, why don't you gave up and back off on what you're calling dispute area??? You Sr, must accept this place which belong to Cambodia according to the IJC in 1962. Attention for my Thai friends, if you respect the Franco-Siamese Map I'll be your side, if no the condemnation will be yours. Please don't let we pronounce you a "tricker". The poor people suffer and die cause of your politic gain. At Meme D24, according on Hun Sen's back ground, he is a hero who had saved million of life from the killer Khmer Rouge. This is what he earns to be Prime Minister Hun Sen.
