Dummy cameras removed

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has removed all of the 1,325 dummy closed-circuit security cameras which had been installed throughout the capital city, Bangkok Governor Sukhumbhand Paribatra said on Thursday.

MR Sukhumbhand said this while inspecting the removal of the last dummy cameras at Victory Monument today with his deputy Thirachon Manomaipiboon.

Although use of dummy cameras was normal practice in countries all over the world, the BMA had removed all 1,325 of fake cameras it had installed, hidden among the real ones, to make people feel more secure, he said.

WHY WHY? Why remove dummy cameras? So that the trouble makers can now do a quick and easy job without having to doubt that they are being watched by a real or dummy camera? I think the Mayor of Bangkok has fallen into Chalerm's trap.

    D8:
Dummy Police are cousins to Dummy Soldiers who are closely related to Dummy Civil Servants (Bureaucrats) and Dummy Politicians.

It's like a bag of Chips (crisps), you can't stop at one.

Technically, these 'dummy cameras' are empty (real) camera housing.
Are they going to get reused (filled with working camera and reinstalled somewhere)
or are they getting chucked in to the rubbish bins ?
    At what cost ?

upena... comment 6. "Now to get rid of the dummy police"... If that were to be achieved and I'm not talking about dummy plastic look alikes one sees at road blocks, it would be a major albeit long overdue step in stamping out graft and corruption in Thailand.

Security cameras real or fake certainly inhibit crime however, when real ones record farangs are being victims, all they achieve is to provide evidence that enables police to extract tea money more easily from both them and the perpetrators which apart from being a crime, makes a sham out of their intended use.

Hello but CCTV cameras can never ensure security. At best they can only report an incident after the fact.

    - Good move! Criminals regardless of real or fake cameras can hide their identity or just hide themselves. And...nobody likes being watched without their knowledge either in actuality or not. Personal privacy is a birth-right above any man-made law or action.

Dummy cameras are often used by businesses and private homes. Law breakers can't be sure if the cameras are real or not, and they do serve as a deterrent.
