Heavily armed southern insurgents raided a defence volunteer base in Rueso district of Narathiwat province early yesterday, killing two volunteers and wounding three others before fleeing with several rifles, local police say.
The defence volunteer base, located in the compound of an employment office on the Rueso-Tha Rua road in Rueso district, was raided at around 2.45am by a group of suspected insurgents.
A combined team of police, soldiers and bomb experts rushed to the scene, but they were forced to return to their bases as trees had been cut down to block roads.
