An assistant village headman was gunned down in front of his wife by suspected Islamic militants in Pattani’s Yarang district on Sunday evening, police said on Monday.
Dawlah Yeng, 42, assistant village chief of moo 6, tambon Khlong Mai of Yarang district, was talking with his wife in front of his house around 6pm when a group of at least four men travelling in a pickup truck stopped in front of his home and two armed men in the back of the truck opened fire at him.
Several bullets hit Dawlah, who was in charge of security in the village, in the head and torso, killing him instantly.
