Given how rare warnings this specific are issued (naming a city) - I believe it is based on credible intelligence. That does not mean it is certain - but that is how intelligence works. I prefer that the gov't warn us to be cautious. Of course they cannot give all the details - some are being leaked already that it was intelligence from Israel provided just before the New Year - but I appreciate the warning. Imagine if something did happen, and then people found out a warning like this could have been issued and was not. The gov't is in a no win situation. I laugh at the comments from the current Thai administration - "nothing to fear", "police will take care of everything." Who trusts the gov't or the police to really do much of anything anymore. They think by saying this it restores confidence for the almighty tourist dollar and saving Thai face. Better to say that they arrested someone, are increasing patrols, inspections, and ask for the public to assist if they see anything suspicious. No panic, just genuine caution and concern.

I had to read from BBC that the alert was issued because 2 known Muslim extremists had entered the Kingdom. Nice work BP.

a public warning is just that. I do belive that one suspect has now been arrested. No futher details can be given out as this could affect any security operations that are taking place.
so i disagree with Disc 1#. They are not clueless at all. It is very wise to make the public aware of this fact and be vigilent and report things, not that, who they report anything to, will do something about it. I guess its now easier for terroists to conduct operations here in Thailand due to the lax security at the airport.

Normally a "public" warning is a sign of total cluelessness, if they had some firm information they would arrest the suspects.
