Thai security agencies can combat terror

CHIANG MAI : Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra yesterday insisted Thailand's anti-terrorism mechanisms are functioning around the clock to ensure public security.

Police from the Metropolitan Police Division 1 check the backpacks of foreign backpackers on Khao San Road amid terrorism warnings in Bangkok issued by foreign embassies in Thailand. PATIPAT JANTHONG

She made her assurances after the US embassy issued a warning to its citizens in Thailand over possible terrorist attacks which prompted more than 10 other nations to issue similar security warnings in its wake.

@Geoffo #2 'How can Hussein be deported when he admitted planning murder? Does anyone understand the thought process'
Very easy to understand. Deputy PM Chalerm said, in his own words, let them go fight somewhere else. Plus the suspect himself gave the promise to the Thai people that Thailand wouldn't be bombed.

Thailand is indeed an easy target for a bomb, and if Hezbollah really wanted to show Israel that it's citizens aren't safe outside Israel they could easy set off a bomb outside one of those places in Thailand where all the Israeli backpackers congregate. Likewise for targeting Americans.

Hahaha!!! They think international terrorist is going to wander and stay at Khao San area.

Well it appears that the man caught at the airport has taken the police to a wharehouse which contains bomb making materials and has been shown on Thai TV. But there is apparently 2 other suspects still at large as they found 3 beds there. So is all the bomb making material accounted for? Is this true? Is this just a staged propagander incident by the authorities for the media?
All this because of irans's nuclear program. This is what is being reported why the terrorists are in Thailand. Now this i can not belive and will not belive. There are better targets than here in Thailand if this is the case.Thailand really is not that important in the scheme of things. when there is 2 intelligence agencies working together such as america and isreal they have there own agenda.I have seen what the american one does in south america first hand and the influence they have on some south american governments.

"Thai security angencies can combat terror" Tell that to the people in the south

America spends billions of Dollars on its intelligence network thoughout the world and the information received is far superior to anything we have or even dream of getting. Should we be fortunate enough to be made privy to some of that information and sees fit to ingore it for whatever reason, be it political or otherwise, ... WE'LL DO SO - AT OUR PERIL.

Look at the picture... do you think that the foreign woman's going to get "pinched" for the illegal CD's under her arm??? :>))

  • Discussion 18 : 16/01/2012 at 10:24 AM18

Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra comment is contradictory to doing an investigation of any sort. NO law enforcement in the world ( except for Thailand ) announces they are conducting investigations. Thai style is, take some photos of key stone cops searching tourists.. what a joke !

First of all the embassies of all the counties involved have a duty to inform thier citizens of any impending problems which may affect the citizens wellbeing while in a country. Does This mean that if a country such as the UK has a major terrorist alert that the Thai embassy in the UK not alert its citizens? This type of statement that she has made will damage tourism in a big way.
1/ How can people feel safe at the Airport even now due to lax security checks on VIP's?
2/ How can anyone feel safe if the Thai government does not want embassies to warn their citizens?
3/ How can anyone feel safe if Thai MP's are allowed to get away with being a suspect in a murder enquiry?
In over a week more has been done to harm tourism in Thailand by offials, government,MP's etc.

RE #3 - Your comment is like Thai Security - a joke! As others have mentioned, they haven't got a clue as to how to stop what's been happening in the southern provinces for 7 years now with the so-called "insurgents" - which is a polite Thai word for "terrorists". So if they can't stop "locals" from bombings, shootings and killings whenever they feel like it, with no one ever being caught, how in the world is the totally over rated Thai Security Forces ever going to do anything to stop serious, highly trained terrorists, WITHOUT the help of better, and much more educated agencies from other countries?

Without foreign help, Thai Security Forces couldn't catch a cold during a blizzard.
