Security at two airports raised

Airports of Thailand (AoT) raised the level of security at Suvarnabhumi and Chiang Mai international airports on Monday following reports of the terrorist threat in Bangkok.

Security had been increased from level two to level three at the two airports, while security at four other international airports -- Don Mueang, Phuket, Hat Yai and Chiang Rai – remained at level two, AoT president Aniruth Thanomkulabutr said.

More security staff would be deployed while checks on passengers, airport areas and luggage would be conducted more frequently and strictly.

The increased security measures were in line with the situation, Mr Aniruth said, adding that there were four security threat levels.

The AoT also asked airline operators to set up their own security committee whose main role was to provide effective communication channels among airlines in the event of a terrorist incident.
