Thailand is not a target of terrorists, Supreme Commander Thanasak Patimapakorn said on Wednesday.

"In the past 10 years, Thailand has not seen any terrorist incidents.

"Although Thailand is an open country for travellers, I'm confident that various units have efficient measures [to deal with terrorism]," Gen Thanasak said.

He also praised the police for uncovering a huge cache of bomb-making materials in Samut Sakhon's Mahachai area on Monday. The discovery came after detained Lebanese Hezbollah terrorist suspect Hussein Atris confessed to the hidden bomb warehouse.

"The police are working efficiently and I ask the people not be worried because security and intelligence units always work closely  together," said the former chief of staff of the Royal Thai Armed Forces Headquarters.

On Wednesday morning, Gen Thanasak presided over an event to mark Thai Armed Forces Day at the Royal Thai Armed Forces Headquarters.

Army chief Prayuth Chan-ocha, navy chief Surasak Runroengrom, air force chief Itthiporn Supawong and other high-ranking military officials attended the ceremony.

"In the past 10 years, Thailand has not seen any terrorist incidents."
Is the army changing it's position on the accusations of UDD members being terrorists?

100 % agree with bangkokbob. Apparently the police believe this man. Get real ! People who stockpile bomb making material are terrorists and therefore not to be trusted at all.

There was enough to make a big Oklahoma size bomb with enormous destructive potential.

Before the 2004 deadly tsunami hits the coast of Thailand, nobody ever dream or believe that it will happen causing severed damages. Let's hope and pray hard that they don't pick Thailand as the next target !!!

This is an American problem. Not a Thai problem.

Big scramble to save face. Whoever said De'nile is a river in Egypt never been here. People seem to think the Kingdom's image will be hurt by publishing warnings. Wonder how it would be hurt if the USA and Mosad would have kept quiet?
As far as Thai authorities having it handled, they obviously knew nothing about this plot, and if the plot spread terror elsewhere, and people died in other countries, would that be ok?
If you are a tourist in the home country or an industry captain considering a move here, you think it's any comfort that there may have been no intent to bomb BKK? This time, maybe...?
Why am I reminded of the flood?

An army general just stated: "In the past 10 years, Thailand has not seen any terrorist incidents."

Let me repeat that one more time:
    An army general just stated:
"In the past 10 years, Thailand has not seen any terrorist incidents."

Finally even the army finally agrees that the red shirts from last year should not be called terrorists.
