US 'wants to question suspect'

Ex-NSC chief says terror alert aims for joint fight

The US has refused to lift a terror alert in Thailand because it wants to pressure the country into allowing its authorities to take part in the questioning of a Swedish-Lebanese terror suspect, a former National Security Council secretary-general says.

Kachadpai Burusapatana said he believed the US warning about possible terror attacks here remains in place because the US wants Thailand to collaborate more with it against terrorism.

"The only concern Thailand had was in the restive south.whatever happened to thai sovereignty? maybe the relationship with the paranoid/controlling U.S. gov't.will put them at risk."
Strange statement considering you're posting from the USA. You're welcome to return to Thailand at any time.

dickemery 28#. I loved the series. But if you are talking about Thaksin please get all facts correct.
He is not a terrorist, though you may think so.But then you will also have to count the dems also, murder for onething.
Let the US question the man, nothing to be afraid of. No valid reason why not. Thai authorites can also be present at the interview. If no lawyer or rep was present at the interview does this not negate any legal procedings? and case thrown out of court. it would in any other country.
more to this than meets the eye.

Something is seriously wrong with this whole story (and I call it "story").. For every claim it comes a contra-claim. First they have been working closely with US: on this matter and then it comes as a total surprise... then, they have never been here for any practical reason. And so it goes on.

.. the suspect have within 30 minutes of his arrest told the police his whole life-story, rated all his associates and pointed out a storehouse. Still they don't let any US. investigators anywhere close to the suspect.

I can't pinpoint the reasons for this but there are for sure a underlaying events.

Banmebkk Discussion 21 : that would make Thailand even more attractive to even more terrorists, knowing they can come here do their business and if caught simply get deported. It's now too late, I'm afraid Thailand is now on the international terrorists map and there will be more actions coming so learn to live with it.

Regarding the whole terrorism issue in Thailand. Don't you get the feeling there is a smokescreen being set up to hide something else ?.

Those concerned about US involving Thailand in it's war on terror, you are way late. Example 4-5 years ago when US openly researched dialysis supplies for Osama passing thru Thailand. If you consider that Thai authorities are unable to control small time terrorists in the South, there is little chance they know about foreign intelligence operating here. If you think CIA, Mosad, and their Chinese, Russian, Iranian equivalents aren't running operations here, you are asleep. If the Israelis can take out scientist in Tehran, you think Thailand security worries them?

How is it an obvious setup Josh?

I say charge the man or deport him asap. If the US gets involved more, I'm afraid more terrorist will come and target their enemies in Bangkok.
