Sukumpol: Army must back govt

The army must back the democratically elected government, Defence Minister Sukumpol Suwannarat said Monday.

"Politics and the army must co-exist and cannot be separated into two entities," ACM Sukumpol said in  interviews during the first National Security Council meeting since he was appointed minister of defence.

Given this governments level of performance and lack of results so far, I doubt anyone would even notice if they were toppled.

Khun Ricefield #9, of course, the actual wording was in Thai, but it meant basically the same thing. Or do you think it said the opposite, like, "not to uphold, defend, nor preserve the Constitution of Thailand.....?"

Disc 8 - I thin if you look at the wording you will find it vastly different than that put forward in Disc 5.

Khun Ricefield #7, my dad is a retired Pol Maj Gen and he had to do it twice, once when he was first commissioned as a police officer, and later affirmed it in front of His Majesty the King when he was promoted to become a police commander. Hope this helps!

It's long past time a Defence Minister in Thailand stands up to the Army. There is a place for the military but it's not in politics or the running of the country.

Disc 5 - "The Army must uphold, defend, and preserve our Constitution against all enemies, both foreign, and domestics, as the Oath of Office demands." There is no such oath for the Thai Military. I believe you have Thailand confused with America.

The Army must uphold, defend, and preserve our Constitution against all enemies, both foreign, and domestics, as the Oath of Office demands. If the Govt is doing the same, there shouldn't be any problem, otherwise, it's a COUP, baby!

The army should never be allowed to be the arbitrator of the country politic. That's the role & responsibility of its citizens. The army must stop using brute strength to decide the country governance just because they can.

Thailand beware, Myanmar is going to be a slow start, but will be the new place for travel and investment.
As for the Army brass, well enough said.

Sure , the army should back the government; as far as that govenment abides by the LAW and follows all checks and balances!! If not, they should not support such a government....
