YALA : Two defence volunteers were shot dead yesterday in Muang district shortly after leaving a checkpoint for their morning security routine, police said.
Ronnachit Plaikaew, 26, and Supat Inthanok, 30, were on their way to provide security to monks at Wat Weruwan when three gunmen on a pickup truck opened fire on them.
The volunteers were critically wounded and died at Yala Regional Hospital. The shooting took place just 100 metres from their checkpoint and 700m from the office of the Southern Border Provinces Administrative Centre.
