The director of a community hospital in Mayo district of Pattani province was shot dead in his house by a gunman on Sunday night.
Pol Col Adul Pinaebango, the Mayo district police chief, said the incident took place at about 9pm when two men knocked on the door of the house of Saman Masae, 42, director of Tambon Thanon community hospital, pretending to buy medicine. The house also doubled up as a clinic.
When Mr Saman opened the door, one of the two men opened fire at him at point-blank range, hitting him in the head and the chest. The two attackers fled on a motorcycle.
Mr Saman was seriously injured and died on the way to Mayo hospital.
