Police identify bomb suspects

Police have identified the insurgent gang they believe planted the car bombs in Yala and Hat Yai on Saturday which killed 14 people.

Sahudin Tohjehmah, whose group is reportedly active in Yala’s Ramandistrict, is suspected of being the mastermind behind the multiple bombings in Yala on Saturday. MUHAMMAD AYUBPATHAN

Police believe further attacks are likely in Hat Yai, and have identified the four vehicles which they say could be used to plant the bombs.

geoffo, franklin - YS did in fact travel to the south. She didn't travel to the bomb locations for concern of interfering in the investigation:

The first thing I find surprising with the south of thailand crisis is that it looks a bit like no one care. Saturday bombing that killed more than 14 people and hurt more than 350 was barely mentioned at all in foreign press. The South of Thailand crisis has been ongoing for years, caused more than 5,000 death, 8000 casualties but the world and the international press seems not at all to care what is happening in Thailand.

The second thing that surprised me is why Thai authorities dont seems to take control of things. Why does it surprise me? because Thai police is actually quite good at identifying suspects in murder cases and i'm surprised that after so many years they still are not able to find the heads of this uprising

Looks like a police mug shot of Sahudin Tohjehmah. Why wasn't he being watched if he is such a major suspect ?

Find Tohjehmah and capture him before he strikes again. He is a murderer and needs to be treated as a murderer.

D9@bula The people who have to do the isolating of the men of violence are the communities in the 5 provinces in the south. A war on separatists is the last thing we need because such wars are rarely if ever won. What the civilian government (at all levels) has to do is to capture the bombers to show that violence is not acceptable, to protect the civilian population (using the police and army as required), to lead the process of reconciliation, and then implement the agreed result - which may or may not be more local democracy. Part of the problem to me is that we have not done the hard yards of reconciliation and concensus building before jumping to solutions such as more self government

D5@DomDunn - the recognised authority here (including by Malaysia) is the Kingdom of Thailand. These people are injuring and killing Thais. We should not try to sugar coat or somehow excuse these acts - still less apparently appear to condone them. There is nothing heroic about people who seek to further their political aims with the bomb and the bullet. The people who set these bombs are murderers pure and simple

If you want to make peace in the south then apologize for Tak Bai and Krue Se Mosque then work with locals not against them .I,m willing to bet many locals know who these terrorists are but they going to risk their lives if they don't think someone is on their side .
