Yingluck defends plan to quell insurgency

Abhisit says Isoc should lead South peace efforts

Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra defended the government's plan to battle the southern insurgency, saying the strategy was in the good hands of key deputies.

Security officers inspect a badly damaged truck in Ban Lubobala village of tambon Khao Toom in Yarang district, Pattani, yesterday morning. A bomb buried beneath a gravel road exploded under the truck. Nine soldiers were injured, three seriously. PARES LOHASAN

The government announced last week that a primary part of the strategy would be a new command centre based in Bangkok. The centre will coordinate intelligence and operations among security agencies.

This conflict can be brought to an end only through dialogue and the genuine wishes for a peaceful, lasting solution.
The military and wappons are not the means to promote peace, quite the opposite -it create only more and more hatred and violence.
Bangkok is far away from the south and so it might make more sense if such a center would have directly on site where all those involved sit around a table

Dis 7 – I am also thinking similar to you. However I would stop short of declaring war with Malaysia. More appropriately the border region must be secured 100 % to prevent any supporting elements from our Southern neighbor from crossing into Thailand. This should be a shared responsibility between the two countries. Anti-insurgent tactics will only work if the border is secured.

The problem and the answer is in the south .Try talking to the religious leaders who are trusted as a starting point to learn what the problems are exactly .Enable people f the south to be part of the process and apologize for Tak Bai and Krue Se Mosque.

What all polls have shown is that everyone in the far South wants more autonomy for the region, the same as has already been given to Bangkok and Pattaya. Establishing a centre for the south in Bangkok is absolutely ridiculous.

If its true what the govt says they are up against Malay Muslims. Then the Malaysian govt must get involved.

Otherwise Thailand should declare war on Malaysia.

D5: I do agree 100% that we can not continue as before. The Army can not solve the problems in the south, the best they can do is to "contain" the situation (save a few lives on "our side" and kill a few more on "their side").
It is time for a change. It is the job of politicians on all sides to unite to provide a path to ending this. As long as we talk hate politics how can we deliver peace?

"And since the ex-puppet-PM is so dodgy, don’t expect him to provide any meaningful answers"
    For your information :
The puppet-MP is the actuel PM Yinluck
About the dodgy affair the Court has already concluded, no need to repeat as parrot this very old story.

AV’s “baby kissing”, “visit burnt buildings” photo-shoot sessions to improve his image does not improve anything else. He is again clueless and all he can deliver after the visit to the south, are opinions. As people often say, opinions are the cheapest of commodities. We know that the draft dodger is full of them, cheap vindictive opinions.

The simple fact is that the Dems have failed the people in the south and that they themselves are a big part of the problem. The first question AV needs to answer would be to tell his southern voters why he has refused their rights to know what the elected MPs, officials from the Dems are doing to improve the situation. Secondly, why are the local officials in cahoots with criminal gangs, rogue police and soldiers to collect “protection fees” from shops and businesses? Thirdly, what happened to the huge amounts of monies received by the local administrators in the south? Other questions:- Was any community development done to improve the situation? How are the local administrators cooperating with the army and the police to contain the violence? Or are the officials busy buying big houses, and "investing" in land plots and waiting for the next big violence to ask for more budget?

And since the ex-puppet-PM is so dodgy, don’t expect him to provide any meaningful answers.
