Democrats threaten to skip Chalerm meet

The opposition Democrat Party has said it will join in Friday's meeting on the southern unrest only if Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra attends.

Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yubamrung has invited Democrat leader Abhisit Vejjajiva and southern MPs from the Democrat Party to attend a meeting tomorrow at the Royal Thai Police Office.

Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra greets Muslim women during a visit to Narathiwat yesterday. She met with local officials to discuss solutions to the ongoing insurgent violence in the deep South.

YS can fly to visit the locals, but can't attend an important meeting that will make a difference? Why?

Don't waste everybody's time and national resources. Consult the Israeli army or get them to demonstrate how to take down these cowards. By doing this, we could also save more innocent soldiers' life because the Royal Thai Armed Forces is simply incapable!

Rule #1 in sales is to talk only to the person who can make a decision. It is a waste of time to talk to people who cannot. The Dems are perfectly right to expect to meet with the PM.

I do not think I know a single private company CEO who is interested in having an important business meeting with the secretary to the CEO of the other company. If either of the 2 executives do not have time, the meeting would simply be postponed.

It is overdue for Thais in deep south to sack MPs who are not serious and sincere about their welfare.

The problem might well be that Ms Yingluck would probably feel uncomfortable in a setting consisting of Democrats, the same people who have resisted her fugitive's brother's 'reconciliation plan', aslso referred to as an amnesty for him. Undoubtably the fugitive has already told her to abstain from meeting with the 'devil' democrats and continue with her photo op PR stunts that amount to nothing more than media fluff pieces to put her in a 'good light'.

I echo Ian dis#3 post that this national issue should not be politicized and all should chip in to suggest solutions. However I don't get why the Demo suddenly seem to revered Yingluck's presence at the meeting when they have been belittling her at every opportunity. This kind of conditionality by the Demo only speak of their insincerity to join the meeting and trying hard to find excuses.

If the Moslem Democrats were sincerely seeking a solution then no opportunity should be ignored or turned into a political game.

"He said that Mr Chalerm, who is assigned to oversee intelligence operations in the far South, and Gen Yutthasak lack decision-making authority." And so does Ma'am, it is abundantly clear that big brother is in charge every step of the way.

I think that asking the PM to attend is reasonable, but at the same time, the Democrats need to be involved and attend regardless. This needs to go beyond politics and focus on eliminating the needless deaths of innocent people in the South. At the same time, PTP needs to man up and quit trying to run this operation from Chalerm's favorite pub in Bangkok.
