Additional stringent security measures are in place in the three southernmost provinces ahead of the eighth anniversary of the Tak Bai tragedy on Oct 25.

Spokesman of the national police bureau Pol Maj Gen Piya Uthayo said on Wednesday that national police chief Pol Gen Adul Sangsingkaew had ordered police in the far South to be on alert for possible attacks over the next few days.

The police chief had also assigned his assistant, Pol Lt Gen Peera Phumpichate, to join today’s trip to the southernmost provinces by Deputy Prime Minister Yuthasak Sasiprapa and army chief Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha, to oversee the situation there, he said.
