Islamist militants blamed for arson attack

A gang of Islamic militants is believed to be behind a brazen arson attack on an administrative office in Narathiwat province yesterday.

Witnesses said the attackers had intended to kill a Buddhist employee at the Bacho Tambon Administrative Organisation (TAO) office, but burned the building instead after the employee could not be found.

Seven armed men stormed into the office shortly after noon, Abdulwaha Dulayapinij, the office's chief administrator, said. He told police he and seven other employees were on their way to lunch when the attack happened.

dss eric l,m having to go along on your thought on this story, but the problem is do your party have the willingness to impletment these measures,or do they have more important things, for them, other issues on the table,so it will continue, because you cant negotiate with terrorist, its a differcult situation, but its off the radar ?

Khun Eric #9, the goal of warfare, according to Sun Tzu's Art of War, is not to kill all the enemies, but to destroy their will to fight. One way is to kill enough of them to make being a terrorist a highly risky occupation, instead of being an innocent Buddhist in the Deep South. The rest of what you're saying makes very good sense, but I guess, until the Military manages to keep its state-of-the-art blimps to stay aloft without crashing, all bets are off!

Khun Spiceman & Morgo, I guess both of you are right. We know better to negotiate when we are at the power of strength which we are not at the moment. At the same time, we can't annihilate all the insurgents as you really don't know who they are. We got to do much better to combat the insurgents by stopping their money trail, intelligence, curtail movement, larger presence of visible force, get the people on your side, more check points, frustrate their logistic supply and more pro active raids. Then we negotiate.

If that is so that Buddhists are the target in a Buddhist country, that is a major issue.
Maybe time for Thai government to seek help from USA, since it looks they do not manage to handle those terrorist problems by them self.

Khun Morgo #5, I don't think the terrorists are interested to negotiate with anybody. Only loser demands negotiation, not winner, and you should know who are winning and losing for almost 10 years now. Besides it's hard to miss the message their bullets and bombs are sending, "Get out of our land now or die." It is exactly what went on in Kosovo, an ethnic cleansing. And do you know how it came to an end or what became of the disputed region afterward? The good news is there won't be any superpowers coming in and put an end to it. The bad news is it will drag on until they are tired of killing or we are tried of dying.

The situation in the south contiues in an accelerating downward spiral while the Puea Thaksin regime only focus on how to white-wash their fugitive leader. Shame on them!

Negotiation is preferable to war, or in this case a pogrom against muslims. (there is no similarity between Thailand's civil dispute with an ethnic/religious minority, and Germany and Japan's aggression against sovereign states). The Phillipine government negotiated an autonomous islamic region, the template is there.
You only need to read the documented cases of torture and intimidation by the Thai State security forces, as outlined by the Asian Human Rights Commission, to understand why the violence has escalated. Violence begets violence and until Thai governments understand this, then there will be no exit from the treadmill.

Spiceman, unfortunately I have to agree with you. Genghis Khan's concept of peace was to wipe out the "enemy", therefore no enemy and therefore peace. The Southern terrorists don't want peace they want total capitulation on their terms, then you get peace. Sad sad sad.

Khun P.Corso #1, Is peace a result of violence being met with overwhelming violence? Is that how all the wars came to an end in the past? Can you tell me how would you stop Adolf Hitler or the Japanese Empire during WWII or the terrorists in the Deep South now? Sing Cumbaya? Be my guess...

    RIP Pol Sgt Wachira Sangsri

The sniper must be really good to hit the policeman in the neck at 7.20 pm in the dark with only security lights on.
It is not a skill you pick up on a street corner or at a lao khao shop. It takes a long time and a lot of training.
Yet another lamb to the slaughter.
