Five soldiers killed in Yala car bomb

Five army soldiers were killed and one seriously wounded in a car bomb in Yala's Raman district on Sunday morning.

Police said the incident occurred at about 7.05am on Wang Phaya-Tha Thong road in tambon Tha Thong of Raman district. Two rubber tappers working nearby also were wounded in the attack.

An investigation revealed that the six army soldiers from the Yala Task Force 12 were travelling in a six-wheel truck after being assigned to pick up workers at a model farm at Ban Upoh in tambon Wang Phaya.

Some of the writers need to think hard, not one single country has overcome terrorism by force and that includes countries with some fairly sophisticated weapons and devices at there disposal not some sniffer dogs and useless bomb detectors. Where are the new so called armoured troop carriers promised recently.

Time for the Thai military generals to lose face and admit they don't know what they're doing and call in some experts.

There has to be a political settlement somewhere, somehow in order to stop the killings.

Curfew has to be settled urgently...
People who are always against curfew are accomplice with terrorists!!!!

fred65 By your post, you don't have respect for the United Nations, every member country of that United Nations - the Kingdom of Thailand and the Federation of Malaysia included. You say you have little (or "not much") respect for the people of Thailand or its institutions. You have no respect for the people of the far South. These are some of the people and bodies who "claim (sic) that the three (sic) southernmost provinces 'belong' to Thailand." So: who or what do you respect? And in your solution, where would these three (sic) provinces go, and how would they get there?

Place million baht rewards for information leading to the arrest of these terrorists. Everybody and their uncles will happily turn them ALL in.
Hire Nepalese Gurkhas to go patrols. Provide armor plated patrol vehicles. Throw away those worthless GT200 bomb detectors and train explosive sniffing dogs. Ask the Israelis for advisors. Infiltrate the terrorist cells for intelligence. And get rid of these meddling politicians who don't have a clue. But do something that'll put these terrorists out of business!

The puppet regime of Yingluck S. will never be pardoned for the mass murder of the occupants of a mosque in the deep south by her "big" brother's sleuths. I wouldn't want my 6 years old son to be offered as a sacrificial lamb for a misguided policy of corrupt legislators and state executives in some 12 or 15 years. But the poor and illiterate majority in the North and Northeast will go on losing their sons to the caprices of power drunk politicians. Watching the map, I must say that I don't bear much respect for the people who claim that the three southernmost provinces "belong" to Thailand. Just let them go!

More brave men die needlessly. From the way this article describes the "incident", it was not an just an incident. It was not even just some "insurgents" using terrorist tactics. This was a well planned military ambush. In other words an act of war. The Thai army has some very good hard fighting warriors, but there does not seem to be one in charge. When politicized generals are listening to the Bangkok politician's advice, forget it. D8 is right put a war trained Sgt.Major in charge for a while and turn the Thai warriors loose on the terrorists. Not to bully the locals, but to destroy the enemy. This is a war.

One thing that might help though would be to sell the blimp, the aircraft carrier and other useless gear, and buy a small army of miniature drone planes with cameras instead. These are hard to spot if flying high enough, and impossible to shoot down. Eventually they will catch the bad guys in action, and then they can simply follow them to their homes where the army can catch them!

As far as I know, we are talking about a large amount of terrorists in total, which means there is also a large amount of family members, friends etc. most likely numbering in the thousands, many of whom must know that their husband, son, brother, uncle, friend etc. is a terrorist. Perhaps some of these people should start coming forward. I suspect an anonymous call to the army telling them where some of the terrorists live would be helpful.
If the locals are protecting the terrorists, or are too scared to talk, then there is really not much the government can do about the problem!
