Malaysians have been urged to temporarily stop crossing the border into southern Thailand, following the insurgent attack at a marine base in Narathiwat in which 16 militants were killed on Wednesday.

The call was made by the Malaysian army to protect the safety of Malaysians, who regularly crossed the border, according to Eighth Infantry Brigade commander Brig-Gen Mohamad Zaki Hamzah.
