"they want to turn the 3 southern provinces into an Islamic State, so don't you think that would imply they are Islamists and not ethno-nationalists."

thegabster, this sentence just entirely proves my point.

Dis#14, let me try to summarize history for you. Before Malaysia was Malaya who got their independent from the British. Before the British, there were Malay sultanates of which Pattani was one. They lost the war to Siam and was subjugated as a tribute state. The British recognized this fact and signed away the Pattani sultanate consisting of Pattani, Yala and Naratiwat. How did you mix this up with Malaysia?

the gabster, Disc 6.....I would go with you that they are Islamists. They not only wan't to turn the 3 states to islamic. They wan't them to be returned to Malaysia. These three states belonged to Malaysia until the British gave them to Thailand sometime in the early 1900s.

They should be treated like any other murders trial and conviction!

My guess is that they number in the thousands and 27 is not going to make any meaningful difference.

"military, police or administrative officials who screen southern Islamist militants wanted on warrants for criminal offences, and who surrender, could decide if individual warrants should be voided."

Looks like a great opportunity for a few baht to change hands.

These people are murderers who targeted people who were unable to defend themselves. Now they want impunity from prosecution. Same as the other 27. Hard to believe anyone other their kind have any sympathy for them. Ask the families of people who have suffered because of them. Same as all faceless terrorists in the world.

"They went into hiding in Malaysia five years ago."

Lending credence to the notion that Malaysia must be involved for a total solution to this problem.

Is this an admittance from Thai Government and the Press that JoneTai problems are sponsoring by Malaysia and Saudi Arabia (I don't want to say by government)? I hope this event lead to the peace. Like 1970s the students fled killing by PM Jome Phonh Thanom Kittikhajone, they came home after spending time with communist for a while. I think they are sincere and want to come back to live in peace with their family. I hope they were provided safe haven and justice, so that the others would come out and stop the madness.

Malaysia must really be serious to help solve the southern unrest and not only pay lip service. This duo citizenship issue is allowing insurgents to slip across to Malaysia and to live with impunity after performing atrocities. Malaysia must be serious in screening those who are possessing duo citizenship and living in Malaysia and send back those who are wanted in Thailand.
