Thai soldier steps on border landmine

A Thai soldier was severely injured when he stepped on and triggered a landmine while on patrol along the Thai-Cambodian border near Preah Vihear temple in Kantharalak district of Si Sa Ket on Thursday morning, reports said.

He was identified as Pvt Pichit Khamsomboon of Infantry Company 131 of the Suranaree Task Force.

The soldier suffered serious injuries to both legs and was rushed to Sappasithiprasong Military Hospital in Ubon Ratchathani for treatment.

The situation along the border was otherwise normal.

It was believed the mine was planted along the border long ago and had not been removed, the reports said.
