A village security team member was killed and his wife seriously wounded in a gun attack in a rubber plantation in Rueso district of Narathiwat province on Sunday morning.

Pol Lt Ratchakij Luelan, the duty officer at Rueso police station, said the incident occurred at about 5am while Isaloh Hayimu, 54, and his wife Rosida, 50, were travelling on a motorcycle to the rubber plantation near Kumabungo village to tap latex.

While inside the plantation, militants hiding in the bush opened fire at the two with an M16 rifle and a 9mm pistol.
