A man and his teenage sister were shot and wounded in an ambush in Mayo district of Pattani province on Tuesday night, police said.
They were identified as Sulaima Nawae, 21, and his younger sister Nuraida Nawae, 14, according to police.
According to witnesses, the brother and sister were travelling on a motorcycle on the local road in Ban Budon, tambon Pado of Mayo district when gunmen hiding in roadside forest fired on them with handguns. The attackers then fled.
The victims were each hit once in the hip by bullets, and later admitted to Mayo hospital.
Police were investigating.
