A former militant suspect who survived three ambushes was shot dead at his home and another villager was critically injured by a bomb in Pattani’s Yaring district on Thursday police said.
Yusoh Mateeyoh, of Ban Buena, tambon Talahkapo in Yaring was shot dead while working in his vegetable garden this morning, according to police.
Yusoh was formerly listed as a militant suspect on a charge of violating the internal security law. He turned himself in to police to show his innocence and his name was later removed from the wanted list.
He survived three earlier ambushes, and told his wife he did not expect to survive the next one and she should prepare to receive his body for burial.
Also in Yaring district, another civilian was seriously wounded by a bomb explosion near the security checkpoint in Moo 1 of tambon Talahkapo on Thursday afternoon.
Pol Col Mana Naktang, chief of Yaring police station, said the explosion occurred about 1pm. The victim was taken to Yaring hospital. No other details were available.
A police explosive ordnance disposal team was inspecting the scene.
