Pol Maj Neramit Chuchote, deputy chief of Sarong police station in Pattani’s Yarang district, was killed in an ambush on Friday morning, reports said.
According to witnesses, Pol Maj Neramit was driving his van heading to work on a local road in Moo 5, tambon Khao Toom of Yarang district when gunmen hiding in roadside rubber plantation fired on him with war weapons. The attackers then fled.
The police officer was shot several times in the body and taken to Yala hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Police were inspecting the scene. They blamed separatist militants.
