Bombing near Pattani kindergarten

A bomb exploded behind a kindergarten on Thursday morning in Pattani's Yaring district, but nobody was hurt, police said.

Police said the incident occurred about 7.30am when the home-made bomb, planted at the foot of a tree on a road behind the kindergarten of tambon Yamu, was detonated as a police patrol vehicle was passing by.

The explosion shattered the windshield of the vehicle and left a hole 30cm in diametre on the road.

The three policemen from Yaring police station who were in the vehicle - Pol Lt Kasem Nookaew, Pol Sgt Sithisak Kaewjaempong, the driver, and Pol Cpl Sa-ari Sangbako - were not hurt.

Reports said Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra called an urgent meeting with security officials on Thursday morning at Government House to discuss the restive situation in the deep South.
