The commander of the Royal Thai Marine Corps unit which killed 16 militants in a failed attack on its base in Narathiwat's Bacho district has apologised to the dead men's families.
After the Feb 13 gunfight, when about 50 armed militants stormed the base in Ban Yuelor, Capt Somkiat Polprayoon decided to visit the parents of the dead in a bid to relieve their mental pain.
"I've gone to every house," he said. "The deaths kept them angry, but I put on a brave face and asked them for their pardon."
