Men in women's clothes attack troops

A soldier was injured in a drive-by shooting carried out by four men dressed in Muslim women's clothing on Sunday morning in Yala province, police said.

Thirapong Polpung, 23, was shot in the left leg and was sent to Raman hospital.

According to investigators, eight soldiers were patrolling on four motorcycles behind a train station in Raman district.

Four men on two motorbikes approached the soldiers and the pillion riders opened fire at them with 9mm and 11mm pistols. The soldiers fired back and the gunmen retreated.

The attackers were dressed in Muslim women's attire and wore veils to disguise themselves.

Police blamed southern insurgents.
