The premier, who is also defence minister, made the comment during a visit to the Royal Thai Armed Forces Headquarters yesterday.

She said that in the two years since the government took office, she has been satisfied that all military personnel have done their best to fulfil their duties and obligations.

She said she admired the military for working to help people when the country was in crisis.

The military was able to respond quickly to public needs as they have bases in the various regions and can gain access quickly to remote communities to promptly deliver aid and assistance, she said.

As defence minister, Ms Yingluck said she is pleased to be working with the armed forces in an integrated manner and providing the support needed to increase the military's working efficiency.

Ms Yingluck said there is no room for distrust between the government and the military so long as everyone works to the fullest of their abilities.

"Don't let there be an atmosphere of suspicion, because we are all Thais," she said. She said her visit was intended to extend moral support and express her gratitude to the armed forces for working hard alongside the government for the past two years. The premier insisted she gets along well with military leaders.

"I'm happy. I have to thank the armed forces chiefs who have worked smoothly with the government," she said.

Ms Yingluck dispelled concerns of government interference in the upcoming military reshuffle. She maintained there are rules and procedures in the appointments of military personnel, and the respective forces were able to look after them.

On the issue of the southern unrest, Ms Yingluck said it was difficult to say when the problem would be resolved.

The premier called on everyone to remain patient.
