A mobile phone signal transmission post was set on fire late last night in Pattani, police said.
Pol Col Paphonwat Khattiyawaranant, chief of Ban Sarong police station in Yarang district, said a team had been sent to examine the post near a village in tambon Khao Tum.
Police found the signal control box, wires and other equipment had been damaged, resulting in the transmission system being completely turned off.
Witnesses told police that they saw between two and four men break through the fence surrounding the post using a car tyre, before setting fire to it and fleeing.
The post is owned by mobile phone service provider True.
