A man was killed in a gun attack in Yaring district of Pattani province early Sunday.
Pol Col Mana Nakthang, the Yaring police chief, said the incident occurred at about 2am at a roadside shelter in front of a mosque in tambon Takae.
While the man, identified as Pitaya Chesamhe, 25, was talking to a friend under the shelter, a car arrived and one man wound down a window and opened fire at the two.
Pitaya was hit many times in the head and body. He was killed instantly. His friend managed to jump to safety from the shelter.
Police were investigating to find out if the incident was from a personal conflict or related to the insurgency.
