Two police injured in Narathiwat blast

NARATHIWAT ― Two police officers were injured when a powerful bomb buried under a village road detonated in the path of their vehicle on Wednesday.

The incident occurred at about 2pm on a road in Ban Yatu Buasa Moo 6 in tambon Bango Sato of Rangae district. 

A group of 20 police officers mostly from Rangae and Muang Narathiwat police stations were travelling in three pickup trucks on their way to Muang district when the bomb went off as the second vehicle passed.

Two officers, attached to the investigation unit of Narathiwat Provincial Police, on board the pickup were injured and rushed to Rangae hospital. They were Pol Sub Lt Chowarat Domusor and Pol L/C Songpon Katekaew

Investigators said the bomb, placed in a 25kg gas cylinder, was detonated by batteries connected to a wire stretched 200 metres into a roadside bush. 

The explosion heavily damaged the vehicle’s front and left a crater about one metre deep and 1.5 metres wide at its back left wheel.
