The National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) will continue the peace talks with southern insurgency representatives, but will change the process of negotiation and coordination with Malaysia
Col Pramote Prom-in, spokesman for Internal Security Operations Command Region 4, told the press on Wednesday morning that NCPO chief Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha had ordered that negotiations for restoration of peace in the southern border provinces should continue.
The NCPO would make changes to the process of negotiation and Thailand's coordination with Malaysia. Malaysia has been the facilitator of the past peace talks.
The spokesman said the NCPO chief demanded the peace negotiations abide by the Thai constitution and the principle that Thailand would not be separated in terms of its territory or administration.
On June 30, the NCPO's southern border provinces solution working group headed by deputy army chief Gen Udomdet Sitabutr considered the peace negotiation process and concluded that it would function for the peaceful resolution of the conflict, Col Pramote said.
He added that the National Security Council was drafting a roadmap for the restoration of peace based on the principle of participation, and it would lead to local negotiations to develop mutual trust.
