Udomdej assigns duties to his staff

Army chief Udomdej Sitabutr has signed orders allocating assignments to his deputy, assistants and chief-of-staff just two days after starting work, deputy army spokeswoman Sirichan Ngathong said.

Col Sirichan said Gen Chatchai Sirikulya, the deputy army chief, is responsible for general supervision and screening important issues for the army chief's consideration.

Gen Thirachai Nakwanich, the first assistant army chief, is to oversee personnel management and special assignments.

Gen Preecha Chan-o-cha, the second assistant army chief, is to supervise logistical work and civil affairs.

Gen Chatchalerm Chalermsuk, the army chief-of-staff, is responsible for intelligence operations and foreign affairs.

Col Winthai Suwaree, the army spokesman, said Gen Udomdej had ordered army units to maintain continuity of work including the protection of territorial sovereignty while maintaining good relations with neighbouring countries.

They are also to provide assistance to the people to upgrade their quality of life, protect the monarchy, disseminate His Majesty the King's philosophy of sufficiency economy, and implement the policies of the National Council for Peace and Order and the government regarding security.

Moreover, Gen Udomdej, in his capacity as chairman of the board of army-run Television Channel 5, has appointed Gen Surawach Butrwong, a special army adviser, to be Channel 5 director, replacing Gen Chart-udom Dithasiri.

He has also appointed Lt Gen Apichart Meesommont, Lt Gen Trin Kanchananant and Lt Gen Suchart Pongputhi to be deputy directors of Channel 5.
