Shot female student dies in Narathiwat

The 20-year-old second-year female student at Princess of Naradhiwas University who was shot in the head by a gunman on Sunday died on Wednesday morning at Narathiwat Hospital.

Suthida Tangjai and three friends were travelling on two motorcycles along the Narathiwat - Cho Airong road in Muang district of Narathiwat when they were followed by two men on another motorcycle.

The pillion rider opened fire with a handgun, hitting Suthida in the back of the head.  Suthida was seriously wounded and admitted to Narathiwat Hospital where she remained in a coma in the Intensive Care Unit.  She died this morning about 6am.

Her mother Mrs Sudaporn, Princess of Naradhiwas University's public relations chief Alisa Chaitri and relatives later took Suthida's body to Wat Bang Po in tambon Bang Po for funeral services.  The bathing rite is scheduled for 1pm today.

Representatives of the university and military, police and civilian units in the province  scheduled  a meeting today at 10am to discuss security measures for students and teachers travelling to and from the university, to prevent further similar tragedy.
