Some work permits lowered to B500

The cabinet on Tuesday agreed to lower the fee for work permits for migrant workers from Myanmar, Cambodia and Laos to 500 baht as proposed by the Interior Ministry, government deputy spokesman Sansern Kaewkamnerd said.

The previous fee was 2,000 baht.

Maj Gen Sansern said migrant workers who will benefit from the fee cut are those from the three countries whose nationalities, passports or other identification documents have been verified.

The new fee will take effect after a ministerial regulation has been issued under the Immigration Act of 1979.

It is intended to enable migrant workers to legally register for work permits and be properly registered and taken care of.
