Bomb wounds three police in Yala

Three border patrol policemen were wounded by a bomb explosion in Muang district of Yala province on Tuesday morning, police said.

The bomb  was planted in front of a sentry box of a village protection unit at Ban Thung Khok in tambon Tase and was remotely detonated about 8.05am, when the three policemen arrived on two motorcycles.

Pol Sub-Lt Kan Polyiam, Pol Lt Sophon Yanhan and Pol Sr Sgt Maj Amorn Kraimes were wounded in the explosion.  They were admitted to Yala Hospital.  

The explosion also left a hole about 1m in diametre and about 70cm deep in front of the sentry box. 

Earlier, about 7pm on Monday a man identified as Suchart Jaikwang was shot and wounded in the right knee by an unknown assailant.  This happened about 500m from the sentry box.

Police were investigating whether the two incidents were related.
