Report: Army shoots another Cambodian

Cambodian officials say another of their nationals has been shot by the Thai army crossing the border in Sa Kaeo.

The Phnom Penh Post reported Monday that Ho Sakun, director of the Interior Ministry's Central Border Department, said a Cambodian man was shot and two others arrested last week while allegedly smuggling drugs across the border into Sa Kaeo province.

The shooting came just days after the Interior Ministry released a report revealing that nine Cambodians were shot dead by Thai soldiers last year.

The Royal Thai Police website identified the injured man as 37-year-old Reth Rithy, who is accused of possessing 200 unidentified tablets. The two alleged accomplices arrested were Bun Yong, 54, and Bun Sovat, 26.

The Post quoted Ho Sakun as saying the three men on Feb 25 were spotted and chased by Thai soldiers, who then opened fire.

Pich Vanna, director of the Cambodia-Thai Border Relations Office, was quoted as saying the suspects likely would be tried in Thailand.
