At least two militants opened fire at the living quarters of police and their families in the compound of Lammai police station in Muang district of Yala province on Saturday night, but caused no casualties, police said.

The gun shots hit the living quarters, leaving bullet holes on the walls.  Nobody was hurt in the attack which occurred at 9.15pm.

Pol Maj Prayuth Luangthong, the Lammai police station chief who was working in his office, ordered police to return fire.  A brief exchange of fire followed before the militants withdrew.
