2 soldiers wounded by bomb in Pattani

A soldier was seriously wounded and another slightly injured by a bomb explosion while on security patrol in Pattani's Khok Pho district on Monday morning, police said.

The attack occurred about 8am while a team of soldiers from Pattani Task Force 21 was patrolling on Highway 409.

As they were walking past a cemetery opposite the market of Napradu village, a home-made bomb planted on the roadside was detonated.

Chief Warrant Officer Niphon Niyomchai, 55, was seriously wounded, hit by shrapnel in both legs and the body.  He was admitted to Pattani Hospital.

Cpl Apirak Kumkhunthod, 25, sufferred minor chest pain from the force of the explosion.
