A village chief was shot dead by a motorcycle gunman in Narathiwat's Sisakhon district early on Monday, police said.
Pol Lt Preecha Rachyotha, an investigator at Sisakhon police station, said the attack occurred shortly before 6am in tambon Choeng Khiri.
Uma Dueramae, 50, chief of Village Group 1 of tambon Choeng Khiri, was walking home from a village mosque after prayers when a motorcycle passed by and the pillion rider fired two shots at him. Uma died on spot.
Police were investigating.
